As you may know the Woodland Trust are aiming to create a new forest right on our doorstep. The Heartwood Forest near Sandridge, St Albans will be a huge 850 acre wood full of beautiful broadleaved woodland, a natural resource which can support more species than any other land habitat. It is the biggest project ever undertaken by the Woodland Trust and they need all the help they can get. The Explorer units of the District have been along to the planting days and we hope to have some photos of those on this site soon.
In the meantime you too can get involved in helping this worthwhile project. How?
- get involved with the planting.
- donate some money to the Trust. (You can do this through the Trust website)
- become a regular donor.
- go to the site and see just how its getting on.
It will take around 12 years for the forest to become a flourishing native woodland but there is walks to be enjoyed now.
Please note:- There are still some fields in use by the farm so use the maps provided at the kissing gate entrances and around the site to see where it is ok to walk.
Click on the map to see a much larger version of the Forest design.
