Janes Gems

Janes Gems for 16th June

County are keen to fill the seats at their AGM and so have asked me to distribute the attached invitation to ALL leaders.  Please make sure they let County Office know if they are intending to attend.

· Similarly it would be nice to have a full house at our own AGM next week in Kimpton so again, please spread the word to the great and the good that we would like them to attend.

· One of our leaders alerted me to the attached for a free prize draw for £230 of camping kit or a free weekend camping.  You need to complete a survey but it doesn’t take long so you may wish to get your leaders to enter at http://www.scouts.org.uk/competitions/21/win-pound230-worth-of-camping-equipment-or-free-camping-for-your-group

· With the preparations for the two County Jamboree Contingents and the extra Patrol  gathering pace, the Unit Leaders are looking for suitable Scout premises to hold preparation events (day/evening or weekend). They need the usual inside facilities plus some "green" land outside to undertake activities. the maximum numbers using at one time would be about 40 people.  If you think your premises may suit and you are happy to help, could you please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and he will pass the information onto the Unit Leaders. The Units would be prepared to do some "community service" at the venues in lieu of formal charges - a good offer I would have thought!

· Andrew Sully has emailed your Beaver leaders about a special Beaver Day at Paradise Wildlife Park on Saturday September 25th.  Beavers get in for £2 and Adults go free (ratio of 1 Adult to 6 Beavers free) when paid for in advance. If paying on the day it will be £8 each.  There will be animal talks based on the Animal Friend and Global Challenge badges, plus the Explore badge will be covered and it will count towards their Adventure badge as well. There will be Carrot's Road show and a range of activities laid on.   Please encourage your Beaver leaders to take part if possible.

· Pro Action would like me to remind you that there is still time to enter a young people's 5-A-Side football team for Pro-Action's competition.   Forms attached.

· Tamarack Outdoors is a clothing and equipment store in Lancashire and would like me to advise you of the discounts available to Scout Groups and individual Scouts: Scout Groups receive 20% off normal priced items and trade + vat for Helsport tents, sleeping bags, Frost Mora knives and Loksak bags.  Individual Scouts receive 15% off normal priced items, and an additional 5% is given to their Scout Group.  This will be recorded by Tamarack Outdoors as a credit note towards the groups' next purchase.  Details must be provided at the time of order.  When ordering by telephone or on the web, please always quote code 'scouts'.  On the web, the code will need to be input at the payment page in the discount code box.  For any trade enquiries, please ring the shop on 01995 601011.  They also have an advert in Scouting magazine on page 77 of the June/July issue.  If a leader or member needs any advice or assistance please ring them.
