Janes Gems for 21st July
- The last set of gems before the Summer break. Sorry if not all of the items are relevant to all of you but I am just passing on some of the lovely stuff that comes to my DC address. Take heart, there is a lot I don’t even pass on!
- I will be away for most of the school holidays so my apologies for delayed replies to email. If any of you need me, then use my mobile phone. The number is in the District Directory which you should all have copies of. A text to that number will get a quicker response than an email.
- For those of you with Group minibuses Unity Insurance Services [ This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ] offer a fully comprehensive minibus policy including full breakdown cover from £504 per year. There are rewards for careful driving and low mileage within Scouting. You can lend your minibus to other Scout Groups with no additional premium and policies can be easily extended to include lending your minibus to local community groups or charities.. Breakdown and relay included for all fully comprehensive policyholders.
- A brief reminder that I still have a parent looking to start a new playgroup business and wanting to know if any of your huts are available during the working week to run daily sessions for either am/pm or both.
- The local Macmillan Support Group have recently acquired a marquee available for event hire for £300 . It measures 6m x 12m (800 sq ft ) and would be erected and dismantled by the Support Group.
- The Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey has put together all sorts of activities and awesome experiments for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Visitors will be able to build their own rocket car, create a catapult and construct a firing cannon. Other activities include demonstrations of the ‘hover-chair of doom’, a gyro-suitcase and a vacuum gun. Visitors will also have the chance to design an erupting volcano, witness flying saucer demonstrations and join giant bubble-making classes. In the ‘Trench Experience’ young recruits can try out their drill skills and even handle historic weapons; including rifles and machine-guns under the expert eye of a uniformed British ‘Tommy’. There will also be opportunities to visit ‘Professor Nitrate’s Mad Lab’, enter the ‘Wacky Workshop’ and become a rocket scientist on ‘The Launch Pad’. Royal Gunpowder Mills, Beaulieu Drive, Waltham Abbey is open 11am-5pm weekends and bank holidays and daily throughout August and costs £4 per child in groups of 10 or more and a leader admitted free with every 10 children – just call 01992 707370 or for more information visit www.royalgunpowdermills.com
