Harpenden and Wheathampstead District
The Harpenden and Wheathampstead District is geographically one of the smaller Districts in the County of Hertfordshire in the UK.
Our District includes the town of Harpenden and the villages of Wheathampstead and Kimpton, and everything in between.
Each week well over 1200 young people aged 6-25 enjoy fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, everyday adventure and the chance to help others so that we make a positive impact in communities.
Scouting is provided through our ten Scout Groups (for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts), our five Explorer Scout Units (for Explorers) and our District Scout Network (for 18-25). To search for your nearest Group or Unit, please click on the Groups tab above.
Scouts helps children and young adults reach their full potential. Scouts develop skills including teamwork, time management, leadership, initiative, planning, communication, self-motivation, cultural awareness and commitment. We help young people to get jobs, save lives and even change the world.
Scouts take part in activities as diverse as kayaking, abseiling, expeditions overseas, photography, climbing and zorbing. As a Scout you can learn survival skills, first aid, computer programming, or even how to fly a plane. There’s something for every young person. It’s a great way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity and experience the wider world.
History note:- Back in the mists of time there was the Harpenden Scout Troop. This started in 1908 and the registration of Troops started a few years after Scouting started on a first come, first served basis. The later Troops were the earliest to register which meant that the oldest Troop, known as then as the Harpenden Scout Troop, became the 3rd Harpenden Scout Group.
